White Paper for European Defence and the ReArm Europe Plan/Readiness 2030
On the 19th of March 2025, the Commission and the High Representative have presented a White Paper for European Defence – Readiness 2030. The Commission has also presented, as part of the ReArm Europe Plan/Readiness 2030, a defence package providing financial levers to EU Member States to drive an investment surge in defence capabilities.

Savings and Investments Union strategy to enhance financial opportunities for EU citizens and businesses
The European Commission has adopted its strategy for the Savings and Investments Union (SIU), a key initiative to improve the way the EU financial system channels savings to productive investments. It seeks to offer EU citizens broader access to capital markets and better financing options for companies. This can foster citizens’ wealth, while boosting EU economic growth and competitiveness.

Labour market statistics on businesses: Council adopts new regulation
The Council has adopted a new law to improve collection of labour market statistics on businesses at EU level. In particular, the new rules will ensure that these statistics are more up-to-date and comparable across countries. They also provide for better coverage of the economy, and ensure that data is collected on the gender pay gap.

Judicial statistics 2024: significant increase both in new cases before the
Court of Justice and in cases completed by the institution
The past year can be described as an extraordinary year. In 2024, 920 cases were brought before the Court of Justice, an increase of 12%; it completed 863 cases, an increase of 10% and a number almost identical to the record number of cases completed in 2019
